WWDC 2004 Keynote Conference
Monday, June 28th, 2004
Today was the World Wide Developer Conference 2004 from Apple Systems, who always is a platform to show new software, services and gadgets from this company and other more things from various companies.
I must say that the thing got more impressed was the preview of Tiger and its new features like Dashboard who in fact is a remake of Konfabulator and just simply the creator of the application feels flattered of Apple really liked the product.
What else did I like?
Spotlight of course, because they have made solution for a fast search, instead the bulky MS solution with his MSSQL implementation and WinFS File System, in fact, Steven Jobs told to the public in the Keynote Conference that solution has been made since iTunes has that feature. So now, we have spolight in every single part of the new OS.
The long-awaited new displays now available – 20, 23 and 30 in. – those have a brand-new design with aluminium enclosure, like the G5.
The new RSS reader of Safari 2, very practical at the moment to be updated with the last news of your favorite RSS feeds.
Of course there are a lot of more features of Tiger, but this is like a lil sneak preview what the people of Apple has prepared for us (i have to remark that i’m not a mac user, but who cares?). The release of Mac OS X “Tiger” was planned to be on the first middle of the 2005 year. The developers who attended to this conference got a copy of Tiger, just as a preview.
The huge posters to this Keynote Conference standed sentences like “Introducing Longhorn”, “Redmond prepare your photocopiers”, “This should keep Redmond busy”, “Redmond, we have a problem”… an much more. So much fun with these Apple guys.
March agaisnt abductions
Monday, June 28th, 2004Today was the march agaisnt abductions and crime here in Mexico City, one of the biggest on the whole history of manifestations on here. The people are saying that the number of people who assisted to this march almost reached the 1 million, instead of the media who’s saying that was about 250,000 of people. This is remarkable because you can actually see how many people care about the security on Mexico, many of us – yes, us – are tired of the un-efficient justice system in here.
Of course, any political force wasn’t allowed to participate in this manifestation, who i my personal opinion was great, because just plain citizens were in there.
If you didn’t knew, Mexico has the second highest number of kidnappings in the world and of course many of them are not reported to the police just for fear or just simply because of the justice system who sucks, simply sucks, very archaic if you ask.
A particular dress code was settle for this non-political march, just every single person must be worn white clothes in representation to no colors, equal ideas and no political differences.
Redesigning the site
Sunday, June 27th, 2004As you can see the lack of updates on this site is because i’m doing the next new layout with more eye-candy, and some evaluations by myself, i’m about to finish the new layout of this site, following the trends of the web on this moments.
When i see the new layout, remembers me the fresh tableless layout of macromedia, of course this is not a rip from these guys…
Anyways, i’m gonna put a colophon (about this site) where i’m going to explain why i change the layout, why this color, why this type of layout and who i am… whatever you can see a lil of what it would be the new layout of the site, enjoy!
agkamai.com prerelease summer ‘04 layout
And remember kids, use Firefox to see correctly this page, don’t even think to use IE, it would be a punishment for you all IE users :D
Have a nice week.
Google this… Google that… Google!!… GOOOOOGLE!!!
Thursday, June 24th, 2004Have you noticed that the last entries on the site were from Google. That’s because it’s becoming very popular, and anyone who types about Google get more visits ;)… i just did an experiment on a forum who i visit in a regular basis, i pasted an gmail invite on my sig, and after 5 minutes this expired.
And why Google is popular?
The reasons:
- Search engine: it’s proven that when you’re searching for something in google, many times you find it immediately.
- Pagerank: Nowadays for an owner’s site it’s important to have a very high “Pagerank” because he/she/they know many people tend to make a search on google :P
- GMail: Who doesn’t want a GMail account? Who can’t resist to have 1000 MB of space for inbox? This has become a trendy accessory for every single geek.
- AdSense: Did you see many people prefer to see an AdWord instead seeing an big-heavy-filesized advert? Of course for the companies, this kind of advertisement is very cheap and of course effective or in a few words, the well known “Bueno, bonito y barato” in Mexico.
So… after making a personal list of why google is popular, you’re probably asking dear reader why i’m posting this. Like 2 or 3 weeks ago, the boom of google was because of GMail, and the invites, just look at your favorite blog, and you’re gonna see at least once post titled with “GMail invites”.
And finally, my last argument would be
“OMG GOOOOGLE!!!”
PS. I don’t hate Google, but i know someone is starting to hate it :P
Hotmail & Yahoo vs. GMail
Monday, June 21st, 2004Apparently Microsoft didn’t like the idea to have competition and many people is saying when you send an GMail invite to any address of Hotmail the mail server will bounce it or sometimes misteriously disappear in some point in the transfer between the two servers, but who knows?… Of course everybody knows that Yahoo is directly sending the invites to the bulk mail folder. Of course there’s another rumor that various ISP’s are blocking GMail addresses in their mail servers, and of course the reason is for supposedly the GMail browses and reads the contents of your mail to show you very specific ads, and they arguing that it’s agaisnt privacy and blablabling, thing which is not true.
Let me explain how this AdSense works in this or the way i think it works. First yeah, it reads completly your email, but no, a fisical person doesn’t read the entire mail, is a program who does it, then this program looks for a criteria who fits with the available AdWords in the system. After all this searching the program returns a series of AdWords, no logs are recorded, of course the system, any system, had to read the mail to judge if the mail is real or is just spam. Why did i get that conclusion? Because, that’s the way it works AdSense, this must have to read something to display an accurate series of ads, if so, it shows ads from various non-profit organizations.
Anyways, the point to all this is because Yahoo and Microsoft are being un-ethical at the moment that they have more competition, and apparently they don’t want to improve their systems. But now, have you noticed that Yahoo increased their inboxes from 6MB to 100MB (and the size of their ads)?, you know, to not lose their audience, and changed completly their look, of course it has the same poor speed as always, but what can we do?… And Hotmail? fine thanks… heh, they don’t even care or they are just expecting for something, things that i’m not surely know, but lets see how this war between inboxes is starting…

Ok, i have 1 invitation to GMail, but i think just everyone who reads this blog have one, and i think it’s time to announce the contest and how to get a GMail invitation (did you see how redundant i am?).
Anyways you have to post a story, an interesting story, the subject will be “Be my helper for 1 day”, and the content of this must be relating what would be do me and for me in 1 day to get a GMail invitation, the most interesting story will get the GMail invitation, so let your brains work and make the story to win!
UPDATE After a big concurrency on the contest and many people told their stories… the winner is… Alexa… so the big party will be on http://piano-bar.com
/me wants update this site
Friday, June 18th, 2004Ok, apparently just everyone was expecting for updates on the site, sorry! my bad! cuz the time i invest on my work is just like everthing, not to mention the 4 hours of sleep i have and the 2 hours i got for food/personal clean/transportation… in this moment i can’t concentrate on the work i have for a client who’s a real annoy and is calling over and over and over begging for the updates on his site. Anyways this have been a crazy week and not to mention i have a lot of work and i just can’t concentrate, due the fact is a bunch of stuff and many variable changing that i must have to do.
Anyways, this week happening nothing and everything…
On Monday, a earthquake shake the entire Mexico City, with a intensity of 6.3 Richter degrees and the epicentre was supposedly on Oaxaca, other people said was on Guerrero, no one is sure where. The whole stuff occured at 5.50pm-6.00pm i don’t remember very well, but it was freaky…
Tuesday, i have to woke up at 6am to get to the farthest point on whole Mexico City who’s Barranca del Muerto and it’s about 1.30-1.45 hours to get there, and you only have two options
- Take the subway who’s almost touching the center of the earth and you have to walk a lot
- Take the bus, and try not to die in the neverending traffic of the zone
Well the thing is i have an appointment with a client on this zone, and this meeting least about 2 and a half hours, and one word for this boring
And of course not to mention the olympic torch was on the way, just simply the whole city goes crazy about this and with the feeling “I need to get somewhere to see this fucking torch”, but whatever, i’m not going in too much detail about this…
Wednesday and Thursday… someone was hitting on me with a whip to get the work done, and an argument with a random client, so not much to tell about this days…
And today, i dunno what to say, someone stole me 20 dollars the only money i have available, and i don’t have the card to get more money from the ATM so screw it… i’m expecting someone in the office lend me some money hahaha…
The last thing is, i wanna let you an interesting link, more web experimentation, my favorite kind of site, it doesn’t use Flash, so you must have enabled JavaScript to see it, don’t worry it won’t hurt your computer, i promise :D
Who wants GMail?
Monday, June 14th, 2004So finally i get the link of “Invite a friend to join Gmail!”, and i’m thinking in some kind of contest to get the invitation, is just only one cuz the other two are gone and used by 2 happy users in the net :D, lemme think in the contest and put the rules, give me a couple of hours and let’s see ok?
UPDATE Sorry next time it will be… the invitation is already taken
Umm… Inactive Week
Saturday, June 12th, 2004The site looks so dead this week with no many updates on this, so the week totally sucks except for today, the most remarkable of the week was my lil sister get drunk again… that bitch… anyways, and for the second time i have to handle that, she was so fucking annoying this time, my mom come home and then she immediatly knows someone was drunk, and of course, my sister is grounded again…
Today, and thank to Pieter, i get my gmail account, thank you so much Pieter, you made my day :P i was desperate looking for someone to invite me to this. For the curious people who wants to know what’s the address is agkamai [at] gmail [dot] com, and now i have 1GB for my inbox yay!
My college exam was today about 12pm, and i was concerned about because i didn’t bring my identification and they need it just to know you’re the guy who’s presenting the exam. I think it was easy, i finished it in about 1.5 hrs out of the 3hrs we have, 120 questions with multiple option and the subjects that i remember were Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry(spell?), Biology, Physics, Literature, Spanish(the same as the English subject but of course in spanish), Universal History, Mexico History and Geography. Not objective as the UAM exam but whatever, i hope i get accepted on this, wish me luck…
And about the Photos section, i’m working on it to make it without the tables and add some stuff like comments to each photo.
The past of your pages
Friday, June 11th, 2004<p>The other day i was asking myself if there was a place where you can see the past layouts of a random websites, like how looks like the site of Microsoft on 1996 or what was Hotmail before Microsoft bought it. Well indeed there’s a page who archived through 30 billion of pages.</p>
<p>So you can see the old and ugly layouts who were on the trend many years ago, still, you can see pages with of some months ago, just to check differences between old and new layouts, what did they improved in the pages, etc.</p>
<p>Remember the days when just everyone think that using tables in the layouts was the coolest? But time changes you know</p>

Monday, June 7th, 2004<p>I remember how these flash animations spread from lots of forums, including <a href="http://tutorialforums.com">Tutorial Forums</a> , with that catchy songs on it, anytime in your life have you listened that song who’s like <em>Badger Badger Badger Badger Mushroom Mushroom</em>? yeah that song that fucks up your head about 3 long days.</p>

Tacos & Blogs 3 review or something
Sunday, June 6th, 2004<p>Yesterday was this event, and in my humble opinion, was great, you know, mostly of the time talking of interesting topics. The people who assist to this event was:</p>

And you know, when i have money, i tend to spend it in the first thing came to my head, and it was taking a cab to the place. About 5.30pm i was outside the place for the reunion, so i waited about half an hour, of course, after that i was pissed then saw a guy enter to the place and it was like a signal to get in and ask, so i wait until this guy get in and i make some of spy work :P, yeah i saw him say hi to other 2 person, so i got some kind of feeling <em>These guys are probably from Tacos & Blogs</em> and then i asked them, so i found them, take a seat and talk. After few minutes more people came to the table for the same and yeah, all very nice people, it was fun and i really needed to go out and meet new people. Re: About your design
Wednesday, June 2nd, 2004<p>So the other day was visiting a site who i find very interesting, you know, experiments with flash and stuff, so browsing thru <a href="http://flight404.com">Flight 404</a> i get some inspiration to do my next layout for this site and at the same time release the <em>NoteBook</em>. So i emailed this guy Robert Hodgin regarding for a permission to do a similar layout to his. So after writing this mail the next day i receive this:</p>
<p><em>Edmundo,</em><br />
You do not need anyone’s permission to make a website. You do not need authorization. You should not feel that you have to ask others for their blessing. You will do what you feel is right. Good luck to you.
<p><em>Robert</em></p>
<p>But the thing is if he really understand the idea or not, but whatever he wish me luck :P, so you have some of the details on the new layout, of course is not going to be the same fucking layout, i’m not a ripper but you know when the inspiration comes to you, you must take it, btw, i’m expecting for that event named <em>Tacos & Blogs</em> on this Saturday, i really need to go out and meet new people, because i have 6 or more months without going out to have fun, well whatever, i think this is all for today, nothing interesting happened in the last days but steals on a <em>very important</em> shop center and a corrupt governor :)</p>
